If the socket bonus on a piece of gear isn't appealing, however, any socket can occupy any color of gem (with the exception of Meta gems and Meta gem sockets). For example, if a piece of gear has one Red socket, players can socket a Bold Living Ruby, Inscribed Noble Topaz, or Sovereign Nightseye to fulfill the socket bonus as each of these gems match a Red socket. Sockets can only be Red, Blue, or Yellow, although there are single-color and multi-color gems that players can use to fulfill the socket bonus.
